The Regional Medical Team

The Regional Medical Team is formed of 8 volunteers representing the AWR. They are Senior Medical professional with extensive experience in SRH. The RMT was established according to a regional council recommendation endorsed by the RC meeting held in Beirut in September 2003. The purpose of establishing the team was to discuss all medical issues especially those related to abortion then the mandate of the team was expanded to address all SRH issues, make recommendations to be adopted by all MAs.

The team meet twice a year, each meeting has its specific agenda and the outcome recommendations, each year the team elect one member to be a president for one year, the preparations, facilitations and development of recommendations are coordinated by the AWR Technical Support Department (TSD) director (Dr. Magdy Khaled). After each meeting TSD director disseminate the recommendations to all MAs and MAs will report about their follow up of the recommendations and present their achievements in the next meeting.

Terms of Reference of the RMT

1. Conduct periodic meetings to discuss sensitive technical issues like Abortion and HIV/AIDS in addition to other technical subjects such as youth services, sex education, EC etc…..
2. Come up with recommendations for the discussed subjects to be presented to the RC and followed up.
3. Follow up the IMAP statements/recommendations and ensure its dissemination to MAs in coordination with TSD
4. Ensure dissemination of up-to-date technical info and best practices in coordination with TSD.
5.  Assist the MAs in achieving their strategic plan through technical information dissemination in coordination with TSD.
